Arsenal Take Steps To Sign Talented Defender In January

Mehdi Benatia

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new superb defender in January.

The North Londoners have been linked with a handful of top defenders ahead of the upcoming transfer window, but right now, a certain talented defender is in the limelight.

According to a report by calciomercato currently circulating in Italy, Arsene Wenger’s side have moved in with an offer worth €40M to get Mehdi Benatia from Juventus.

It was also added that Juventus rejected what was offered for the African star and are not ready to get him sold.

But the former Bayern Munich defender is struggling for regular first-team actions this season so far at Turin. He has rarely started for the Italian champions this term and has made just eight Serie A starts this season so far, scoring two goals.

The 30-year-old is, however, an experienced and talented defender who has all it takes to add more quality to Arsene Wenger’s shaky backside.

Mehdi has won the Italian Serie A title with Juventus, as well as the German Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich.

At Arsenal, the duo of Koscielny and Mustafi are Wenger’s first choice, central defenders. However, the London club are lacking quality and depth in the back line, and their French manager must take advantage of the upcoming January transfer window to sign a new center half.
