As if losing to Nottingham, resulting in being thrown out of the Emirates FA Cup wasn’t bad enough for Arsenal faithful on Sunday, the French tactician spoke after the match.
Arsene Wenger welcomed his first winter signing to the side last week, as youngster Konstantinos Mavropanos was unveiled to the public having joined them from PAS Giannina.
It’s a kind of signing fans were expecting in truth but one that fans will hope will later develop to become a major first-team player in the seasons ahead, but as their campaign begins to slip away once again, more established players being signed would be expected.
However, that doesn’t seem to be Arsene Wenger’s plans as he said in his post-match press conference that there are no more imminent deals. Further, the manager didn’t give the greatest of assurances that he well knows much about the new signing in his responses.
With another battle on Arsenal’s hands to secure a top four finish and thus qualify for the UEFA Champions League, it’s not the period to be leaving supporters disappointed off the field too.
The Gunners currently sit in sixth position in the English Premier League, five points behind Liverpool in fourth spot, while Wenger’s men still have the UEFA Europa League to compete in. With no more winter signings imminent, this is not going to soften the growing displeasure that looks to be brewing at the Emirates Stadium once again.
