According to Chelsea legend Andy Townsend, midfielder Danny Drinkwater should be knocking on Conte’s door demanding a spot in the team.
Limited playing time
The England international midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge in a £35million deal from former League champions Leicester City in the summer.
Danny Drinkwater was added to Antonio Conte’s team after they surprisingly opted to offload Serbian star Nemanja Matic to one of their direct title rivals Manchester United.
However, Drinkwater’s fellow summer arrival Tiemoue Bakayoko has broken into the first-team squad ahead of the Englishman despite his inconsistent performances.
Drinkwater, 27, has started only three English Premier League matches, although he has come off the bench seven times in the top flight.
The midfielder was a late substitute in the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Catalan giants FC Barcelona in their Champions League first leg last-16 encounter on Tuesday.
Regular spot to be demanded
Former Chelsea defender Andy Townsend feels the player is within his right to demand for a first-team spot in the Blues squad.
Danny Drinkwater has played three matches in the UEFA Champions League this season, racking up only 41 minutes as a substitute.
Chelsea are looking to win their first UEFA Champions League trophy since 2012 when the Blues defeated Bayern Munich on penalties.
