Manchester United star defender Phil Jones has insisted that teammate Timothy Fosu-Mensah has what it takes to succeed at the club.
When Louis Van Gaal was still boss at the Old Trafford club, the Dutchman enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign where we saw him displayed impressive levels of power during the latter stages of the season.
Fosu-Mensah was eventually rewarded for his efforts with a four-year contract back in October. Unfortunately, the 18-year-old hasn’t made a start under Jose Mourinho since the Portuguese took over.
Nevertheless despite the recent absence of the youngster from the starting XI, Jones was of the opinion that Fosu-Mensah will evolve into a sensational talent at Old Trafford in the coming years.
Jones believes he is a good young player who is quick and good with both feet.
“He is someone who is improving all the time [and] he will be a good player for this club.” Jones said.
Fosu-Mensah started life as an aspirational footballer with Ajax and quickly mastered a number of positions before prospering under coach Warren Joyce.
An upbringing like such has given him a valuable mixture of steel and versatility. Nevertheless, footballers are far more likely to make it at the highest level if they master just one position instead of being competent in several roles. Fosu-Mensah is originally a central midfielder but is being used primarily as a defender since arriving at Manchester. He needs to decide what role suits him best if he want to prosper under Mourinho.
