With Chelsea new winning formation doing wonders and giving the Blues the desired results, Brazilian centre back David Luiz has come out to warn his fellow players not to get carried away, insisting there is still a long way to go before a champion can be declared.

The 29-years old star returned to Chelsea from PSG for a second spell in the summer, for a fee at about £30m.

His arrival on the dead-line day was a shock to Chelsea fans and pundits as most claimed Luiz was a panic buy by Antonio Cante, after failing to secure the services AC Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli and Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

Speaking to Chelsea TV after yesterdays one nil victory over Middlesbrough, Luiz said:

“It’s important to finish at the top of the league. Of course we are happy, but it’s too early to speak about that.
“It’s important in the last game to finish at the top of the league. That’s our goal.”

Although the 29-years old defender struggled at the beginning of the season, but since the change of formation by Conte to preferred 3-4-3, the powerful Brazilian had excelled, helping his to secured six straight win in a row without conceding a goal.

“We are happy. We are doing an amazing job, but we need to keep our feet on the floor with humility because every game is a tough game.

“It’s a tough game when you play here [Middlesbrough], everyone knows, so we are happy because we did a great job, especially on the defensive side.

“It’s a good three points and the first time this season we are top of the league. But we need to understand it’s just the beginning.”

When asked about his new role in the new formation, Luiz had this to say:

“I just try to do my best, it doesn’t matter which position I play. I think everybody understood about this philosophy — that’s why we are doing well.

“The spirit is amazing and when you have this team spirit, this makes the difference. I am happy to play for this team and I am happy to be part of this family.”
