Arsenal are keen on signing Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri after Italian side, Roma pulls out of the race, according to reports.

The 25-year-old was key figure for the Ligue 1 side last term as they stunned everyone with their brilliant displays in France. The midfielder has been linked with several clubs this summer.

Reports in the Guardian have it that Roma have opted out of the race to sign Seri this summer due to his £35million release clause, paving way for the Gunners.

The Ivorian did well to turn heads with displays in the midfield last season, netting seven goals and nine assists in the French Ligue 1.

Arsene Wenger is understood to be keen on adding Seri to his ranks this window and even discussed a transfer with Nice during his visit to France earlier this summer.

However, Arsenal will have to beat intense competition from their North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur who have also expressed their intention to sign the midfielder.

When asked about the possibility of leaving Nice, Seri said:  “There are a lot of clubs that follow me. But there is nothing done.

“If I leave, it will be to join a club where there is a real desire to play football as in Nice

“And I’m not going to be on the bench, I’m leaving only if I know I’m going to play.”
