Liverpool Top Target Unlikely To Sign New Contract

Naby Keita

RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick has admitted that talented midfielder Naby Keita is unlikely to sign a new contract with them after the Guinean emerged as a target for Liverpool this summer.

Apart from Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk, the African star is another player strongly linked to Anfield for much of this summer.

Its a fact that Leipzig are ready to offer Keita a new deal in an attempt to keep him at the club.

His current deal with the Bundesliga club is expected to run until 2020 with a £48M release clause. However, his club are offering him a new deal which would demolish the clause and hinder him from moving away from the club.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been able to bring in the trio of Dominic Solanke (from Chelsea), Mohamed Salah (from AS Roma) and Andrew Robertson (from Hull City) this summer, but the German manager is ready to do more, and his ready to smash the club’s record-fee once more by signing Naby.

And Rangnick, speaking recently to the press about the player, said:

‘I’m not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his deal prematurely. I can assure you that he is playing with us this season.’

So, Liverpool will need to wait till next year before they can get Keita.
