According to new reports, Manchester United are set to step down their pursuit of Benfica defender Victor Lindelof because the Portuguese boss thinks the club do not need another centre back presently. In recent times, Lindelof is one player that is heavily speculated to make a move to Manchester United come January.
But presently, surprisingly, The Daily Mail stated that United coach Jose Mourinho has decided to have more faith in his present defensive options already in the team.
It was stated further that Mourinho has called off the move due to being impressed with the recent form of both Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones. The two defenders have successfully formed a stronghold in the back of the defence, and helped the team to four consecutive wins.
Considering that the duo of Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly are back again for action from injury, this has given Jose Mourinho more reasons not to splash more cash on another defender. And even though Eric Bailly is leaving to represent his country in the African Cup of Nations in January, Mourinho seems to believe that the trio of Jones, Rojo and Smalling are enough to do well while he’s away.
Well, we are surprised at his sudden change of mind which is contradictory to his attitudes earlier this season when he was showing signs that he is participating actively in the winter transfer.
Nevertheless, though some players are fighting their way back into the team, it is still expected that some are still going to leave Old Trafford. The duo of Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay have been heavily linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
