Arsenal academy boss Per Mertesacker has spoken on the untimely retirement of star player Mesut Ozil from the national team.

Ozil had said goodbye to the German national team after the World Cup in Russia where the country were eliminated after the group stage of the tournament.

The Former Real Madrid star had protested that he was a victim of racism by the German football family after he was pictured with Turkish President some weeks before the world outing.

Ozil also claimed to be used as a scapegoat for Germany’s poor performance at the World Cup as he was criticized for the poor performance.

The Gunners star claims that when he wins, he becomes a German but when he loses, he becomes a foreigner and that has forced him away from the national team as efforts by the team’s coach, Joachim Low to have words with him failed.

However, Mertesacker said the manner at which the playmaker left the national team is disappointing, adding that no one did a good job in the situation.

According to him, Ozil ought to have retired in his own fashion like other players do after such commitment with the national team but that did not happen.

The former Arsenal defender laments that nothing much was done on the matter by the country’s football association, adding that no replacement has been found for the Gunners star.

The arrival of this player at Old Trafford will provide an escape route for £31m player
