Manchester United set to activate Europe best striker’s £97million buyout clause – report

According to report emanating from Italy, Premier League giants Manchester United are among clubs ready to activate Mauro Icardi’s £97million Inter Milan buyout clause.

Release clause to be activated

Corriere Dello Sport, as cited by the Daily Mirror, is claiming that United are set to equal Icardi’s contract buyout clause in the summer.

The same report states that the side will face stiff competition from French Ligue 1 sides Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish La Liga outfit Real Madrid for the striker.

As per the same story, the 24-year-old will consider his Serie A futures if Inter Milan are unable to seal a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Argentina international striker is a familiar name to Old Trafford fans considering his impressive displays for the Serie A outfit over the last five seasons.

Prolific striker

The South American has scored 96 times in 170 matches since his transfer to the San Siro from their Italian rivals Sampdoria back in the 2013 summer window.

The Red Devils signed Chilean international forward Alexis Sanchez in a direct swap deal with North London giants Arsenal in the winter transfer window.

United boss Jose Mourinho already has Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard capable of supporting Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku.
