According to reports making the rounds in the British media, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is prepared to cash in on defenders Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the summer transfer window.

Major shake-up expected

The Daily Mirror is suggesting that United are getting set for a defensive adjustment and the Portuguese tactician has deemed the pair to be surplus to requirements at the club.

The same report says that the former Chelsea boss is interested in signing a new centre-half next summer as he tries to make the team more reliable at the back.

The story says that both Jones and Smalling’s futures at the club are in major doubt after the sides shaky defensive displays recently.

United linked with Maguire

The same article suggests that the club have been linked strongly with a huge money swoop for Leicester defender Harry Maguire.

United have been without one of their top defenders Eric Bailly for much of this campaign due to an ankle problem and it remains to be discovered when he will be returning to action for the team.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho is presently preparing his side for their Emirates FA Cup fifth-round encounter against Huddersfield on Saturday.

The team are currently in the second position in the League despite their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle last Sunday.
