According to reports, Liverpool are battling City rivals, Everton, to sign Charlton youngster Ezri Konsa, a highly-rated sensational centre-back.

The teenager has played nine matches in all competitions so far this campaign, building on becoming a regular starter for Charlton last season as he played 39 matches.

It looks as though his brilliant form has attracted suitors from the two Premier League clubs, with British outlet The Sun reporting that Reds scouts thinks he has what it takes to play in the Premier League.

However, they’ll face stiff competition from their neighbours Everton who have also shown interest in signing the young talent from the lower leagues, and both sides have a decent relationship with his club following Joe Gomez’s transfer to Anfield Stadium while Ademola Lookman switched to Goodison Park.

Konsa has played for England through at youth team level and was a FIFA World Cup U20 winner this summer, albeit playing just one match, as he continues to make a good impression for both his club and National team.

Charlton manager Karl Robinson notes in the report that the defender has made no suggestion that he wants to leave and is happy to further his development at the lower league side for the time being even if he is not always a guaranteed regular starter.
