According to reports coming from Germany, English premier league side Liverpool are planning a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano to solve their defensive problems.

So far this season, Liverpool have already conceded nine goals in the Premier League and manager Jurgen Klopp have been widely criticised for not signing superb defenders during the summer transfer window for this term.

Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk was their major target in the summer, and the player himself is understood to be interested in coming over to Anfield.

However, Liverpool were forced to issue an apology to his club Southampton after the Saints threatened to report them to the FA for approaching the defender illegally. They subsequently dropped the deal to foster peace between the two sides.

And German publication Bild indicates that the Merseyside club have now turned their attention to Leipzig’s centre-back Upamecano ahead of the January transfer window.

Upamecano joined the German club in January and signed a contract meant to keep him at the club for four-and-a-half years. He was however heavily linked with a move to England in the summer window following his impressive performances at the club.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal are understood to have shown a strong interest in the France Under-19 international, but the duo signed other defensive targets. While Jose Mourinho brought in Victor Lindelof, Arsene Wenger completed the free transfer of Sead Kolasinac.
