Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged the club to give defender Joel Matip a new deal after his impressive end to the just concluded season.

Klopp was impressed with the performances of Joel Matip in a Liverpool shirt as the Reds chased down major honours in both the Champions League and the Premier League.

According to the London Evening Standard via Goal, Klopp wants a new contract reward for Joel Matip.

The 28-year-old forged a potent centre back partnership with Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

The Cameroonian international scored one goal in 22 games in the Premier League as the Reds came close to ending their 29-year league drought.

Since the 1989/90 season, Liverpool have not won a league title

Joel Matip and Liverpool won their last eight games in the Premier League but it was not enough as the Reds missed out on the title by just one point.

Manchester City retained their Premier League title by one point.

Joel Matip and Liverpool ended the just concluded season by winning the Champions League title via a 2-0 win over North London giants Tottenham Hotspur in their final clash.

The Cameroonian defender played the entire duration of that Spurs game.

Joel Matip has one year left on his current deal with Liverpool.
