A new report had it that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is preparing a £40m offer for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and is set to beat Chelsea to get him.
The Daily Star reported that Mourinho has made Bakayoko his top priority in the ongoing winter transfer window as he has been forced to act now so as to avoid missing out on him to his former club.
The report additionally stated that the Ligue 1 club are desperate to keep hold of the Frenchman, as the 22-year old has been an influential part of their success this season so far. He has made 27 appearances in all competitions and has scored two goals. Monaco are presently two points behind table leaders Nice in the French league.
It was reported that United would be selling Morgan Schneiderlin to Everton for £22m, this will surely provide Mourinho with the fund to bring the player in to Old Trafford.
Bakayoko is already referred to as the ideal midfield partner for Paul Pogba. With his defensive qualities combined with his strong desire to get up and attack, himself and Pogba could form a crucial partnership in the United midfield. Bakayoko would also be seen as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick. Carrick is playing a vital role in Mourinho’s squad, but he is not getting younger.
