Federico Pastorello – Patrice Evra’s agent, has recently revealed that the Frenchman held talks with United boss Jose Mourinho earlier this January ahead of a potential move to Manchester United over the January transfer window.
It was widely speculated that the 35-year-old left back who is approaching the end of his contract with Serie A side Juventus, was determined to on to end his career at Old Trafford.
However, he ended up signing an 18-month contract with French club Olympique Marseille last week, after his two and a half seasons stay at Juventus.
However his agent Pastorello stated that things could have turned out differently for Mourinho and Evra.
“There was contact between the player [Evra] and Jose Mourinho,” he said. “If there had been [an] opportunity to return, he would have done everything to go back to Manchester United.”
The idea of Evra returning back to Old Trafford would definitely appealed to the romantic side of any Man United fan. After nine solid seasons of buoyant service at the left back for the Old Trafford club, no supporter would have a bad thing to say about him.
However on the other hand, we need to question if he can at the age of 35, flourish in the Premier League. The Premier League seem to be getting stronger and even back then in 2014 – during Evra’s latter stages at Man United, he wasn’t as solid as before.
Moving to Ligue 1 appears to be the sensible thing for a player entering the latter stages of his career to do.
