According to reports, Manchester City don’t want to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez in the New Year, as they prefer to hold on and pick up the Chilean international on a free transfer in the summer.
The Mirror reports that Pep Guardiola’s team are still unhappy at the way Alexis Sanchez’s deadline day transfer to the Etihad ended up failing, and because of that, they don’t want to pay the Gunners any compensation for what they see as a sure banker that the player will move to the City of Manchester.
The 28-year-old’s plan to remain at the club until the summer window, when they can pick him up for free.
The North Londoners can continue to convince him to change his mind in the remaining months of his contract. Plus, it allows Arsenal another six months to search around and identify the Chile international’s replacement, assuming he eventually leaves.
Either Alexis Sanchez heads abroad and Arsenal don’t have to worry about the player anymore, or he remains at the club for the rest of the League season and Arsene Wenger has more time to negotiate a deal and find a perfect replacement.
The £20million Manchester City quoted they would pay in the winter is the only thing Arsenal would miss out on, and I doubt any fan will care much about that loss.
