Chelsea boss Antonio Conte keen on 19-year-old star player

Renato Sanches

According to Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte personally enquired about Renato Sanches earlier this week.

Sanches, suffered a frustrating debut season with Bayern as he struggled to establish himself under coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was voted best young player at Euro 2016 and also won the 2016 Golden Boy award.

Sanches, 19, admitted earlier in the week he is “not satisfied” with his lack of playing time at the Bundesliga club and would consider leaving the club in search of regular playing time.

Serie A giant, AC Milan have held discussions with Bayern Munich about Sanches, but Chief Executive Rummenigge says they are one of many top European clubs, including Premier League Champions Chelsea, interested in signing the Portuguese.

The teenager, who was signed for an initial fee of £27.5m from Portuguese club Benfica last summer, started only six matches for Bayern in the German Bundesliga last campaign and completed 90 minutes once.

The Blues have already strengthened their midfield by signing Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40m from French side Monaco.

However, Chelsea have sold Nathaniel Chalobah to Watford for £7m and have loaned out youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek to Crystal Palace.

Serbian Nemanja Matic was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season training tour of the Far East, along with want-away striker Diego Costa, and has been linked with a potential transfer to rivals Manchester United.
