Nelson Semedo

Barcelona have upped their interest in Manchester United target and Benfica defender Nelson Semedo, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has been a subject of transfer interest from the Catalan giants but with Manchester United to contend with, following reports that the Red Devils have held talks with the Portuguese giants during their negotiations while discussing their deal for Victor Lindelof.

Barca are believed to have ended their interest in Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin and views the defender as a good alternative at the right back position.

Reports in Portuguese outlet Record claimed that Barcelona are considering a fresh move for Semedo and have launched €30m offer for the Portugal international.\

Spanish radio station RAC1 have also claimed that Barca have intensified their efforts to sign Semedo and new boss Erneste Valverde is keen on completing a deal as soon as possible.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be looking at the prospects of signing the Benfica fullback and even asked United to lodge a bid that was rejected by the Portuguese giants, with reports that United have turned their sights elsewhere. The right-back position is currently manned by Antonio Valencia but there are suggestions that the United boss wants to bring in a younger defender to act as cover for the 31-year-old.
