Transfer called off? Star Player recalled to starting XI despite Arsenal speculation

German side Borussia Dortmund have recalled Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to their team to lock horns with Freiburg despite rumour linking him with an imminent transfer to Arsenal.

It’s believed the forward has submitted a transfer request at Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal have been in advanced discussions to land the 28-year-old forward at the Emirates Stadium since last week.

Replacement required
The Gunners have been scouring the transfer market for a long-term replacement for Alexis Sanchez and the north London outfit have abandoned their interest in Bordeaux forward Malcolm to pursue the former African footballer of the year.

Arsenal’s French tactician Arsene Wenger has said that a move is still ‘far from close’ for the African but also claimed that the winter signing is still possible this month.

Aubameyang return to line up
The Gabon international forward has not played for his German side since last year December 16, missing the team’s last three games, but was recalled to the starting line up on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund manager boss Peter Stoger disclosed that the Arsenal target could play in the German Bundesliga encounter earlier in the week. Asked if the striker could be rested to prevent injury ahead of a transfer away, Stoger said ‘No’.
