Arsenal And Chelsea Go Head To Head For Highly Rated Dutch Internaional

Reports claim that Arsenal and Chelsea are going head to head to get the signature of Lazio’s Stefan De Vrij.

The two clubs are monitoring contract talks between the player and Lazio and are ready to step in for the player if negotiations breakdown.

Reports claim that the highly rated defender has been given a juicy offer by the Italian club as both parties seek to reach an agreement.

The Daily Star reports that Italian news medium Repubblica claims that both Arsenal and Chelsea are set to make a move for the defender.

The 24-year-old was out of action for most of last season due to an injury but this has snot topped both clubs from trying to lure the young Dutch player to England.

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte in the summer was heavily linked with a move for the defender. After missing out on a series of defenders like Leonardo Bonnuci, Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli, the former Italian boss tried his best to bring the Dutch International to Stamford Bridge but Lazio were not willing to listen to any offers and held on to their star player.

Arsenal on their part has doubts over the pair of Gabriel and Per Mertesacker on whether they will be at the club for long and despite acquiring the services of Mustafi in the summer from Valencia, they are still interested in the Stefan De Vrij.

Last week Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claimed that Lazio had offered Stefan De Vrij a new contract that will keep him at the club till 2021. This will make him the highest paid player at the club and they have also included a 32 million pounds buyout clause for non-Italian clubs.
Since joining from Feyenoord in 2014, De Vrij has played 37 matches for Lazio.
