After Losing Lukaku – Another Chelsea Target Advised Not To Join Chelsea

Real Madrid star forward Alvaro Morata is one of the strikers linked with Chelsea this summer, with Antonio Conte determined to bolster his squad ahead of a busy campaign next season.

However, Morata’s teammate at Madrid Luka Modric, has warned the Spanish striker about moving to west London by saying that the player ‘can only go down’ if he decides to leave the Bernabeu.

After losing Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is now thinking about a move for Alvaro along with Torino’s Andrea Belotti.

Conte tried signing the Spain international last summer and Morata himself has admitted he won’t mind working under the Italian tactician.

Manchester United were also interested in signing the player and have been in negotiations with the Champions League winners. But since the La Liga club remained adamant on their €90m (£79m) asking price, the Old Trafford club decide pushing for Romelu Lukaku.

It is understood that Alvaro desire more playing time at the Spanish capital, after starting only 18 games last term. But his teammate Modric is of the opinion that footballers should think twice before leaving Real.

Speaking to Marca, he said:

‘When you leave here, nothing is the same. You’re at the best club in the world, that’s for sure, and from there you can only go down.’
