There are new claims that Liverpool actually finalised Xherdan Shaqiri’s deal months before now.
The talented player was heavily linked with a move to Anfield before the World Cup, and after his country were eliminated from the tournament, his switch from Stoke City was officially announced on July 13.
However, Charlie Adam believes the player’s deal to Liverpool was probably done about four months ago.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5Live, Charlie claimed the deal was done before the World Cup, suggesting that all parties intentionally chose to keep it a secret.
The Switzerland international made his debut for his new side in their recent pre-season friendly against Manchester United in America, and he was able to score a superb overhead kick during the encounter.
However, Adam was not too impressed with Xherdan’s inability to help Stoke City avoid relegation last season.
When asked if the Swiss attacker will cope at Anfield, Adam added that the player has no other choice but to adapt appropriately.
“He [Xherdan] will have to [cope]” Adam said.
The Anfield club were also linked with Lyon’s Nabil Fekir before the World Cup, but the French club chose to keep him with them after pouring water on the deal.
