Guardiola’s Winning Mentality Effectively Puts Tittle Race To Bed

When you think of Premier League football this season, the first thing that comes to mind is Manchester City and with good reason from bettingtop10 soccer betting guide.

The Citizens have been absolutely unstoppable so far, racing to an unprecedented 15 point lead with only one game played in the New Year. The closest teams to Pep Guardiola and his side are neighbours Manchester United – who it must be said have played some brilliant football this season but have like the rest of the league been unable to keep up with City as they have completely blown the others away – and champions Chelsea 1 point further adrift.

As we head into what is usually tagged ‘the business end’ of the season, the league appears all but decided. With 16 games to go, City’s 15 point lead at the top is not the major reason why most pundits believe the title race is decided but rather the manner in which Guardiola’s side has approached games this season – with absolute focus and ruthlessness in from of goal.

The fact that Pep Guardiola has a point to prove does not make the task easier for the chasing pack. Having been told on many occasions in the past that his brand of football will not be effective in the Premier League – a fact he brought up after his side’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Manchester derby at Old Trafford last month.

“People said we couldn’t play the way we did in Barcelona in England,” Guardiola said. “But it is possible and we did it.”

Complacency just doesn’t seem to be a problem for this vastly talented and experienced Manchester City team as their manager will undoubtedly be drilling utter focus into his players with so many games to play.

Although mathematically, there is a chance for any of the teams behind them to catch up and possibly overtake the current runaway leaders, the former Barcelona coach’s winning mentality and drive makes that very unlikely.

As Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said after the derby; “I’m pretty sure everyone is going to fight for points and try and reduce the distance, but the advantage is a very good one.”

The rest of the league must have conceded defeat and will be looking towards the 2018/2019 season for a better title challenge but most managers will also be trying to stop Manchester City when the opportunity arises and reduce this massive point deficit come May.
