In recent times, the Brazilian media have had big coverage of Corinthians’ talks to sign former Chelsea striker and Ivorian Didier Drogba.
Corinthians reportedly encountered some trouble at first which was brought about because of the intervention of an intermediary. However in the end, they managed to have a word with the player himself.
The Club’s president Roberto de Andrade reportedly had a video conference with the legend Drogba who politely gave a ‘no’ to Corinthians’ offer.
Globo Esporte revealed that what Drogba told the official is that he should be retiring, with the possibility of perhaps getting a role at Chelsea.
Since Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade was quoted directly, then it appears that the information probably leaked from one of the people involved in the talks.
Andrade’s club seemed honored to be holding talks with such an important player like Drogba. And following that, they went ahead releasing an official statement thanking Drogba for the negotiations.
As known to happen among many in Brazil, it became the subject of a joke for their rivals and the ironic ‘Thanks, Drogba’ became a trending topic on Twitter just this week.
But wait, a role for Drogba at Chelsea? that would be awesome…
