Ajax Amsterdam legend Ronald De Boer has told interested clubs like Liverpool that they have to pay over €85m for club skipper Matthijs De Ligt who’s expected to leave the club this summer.
De Ligt, 19, is one of the most sought-after players on the European football scene with major clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain (PSG) and Liverpool all keen on his signature.
De Boer told TalkSport that clubs have to be prepared to pay more than what Spanish champions Barcelona paid for Ajax teammate and buddy Frenkie De Jong and that De Ligt has more quality to thrive at the top level than his friend.
Barcelona signed De Jong in January for a deal reported to be around €75m plus €10m in add-ons and Ronald De Boer is certain that Matthijs De Ligt is worth more.
De Ligt and De Jong both played 90 minutes for Ajax Amsterdam as the Dutch Eredivisie giants moved a step closer to an appearance in the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid with a 1-0 away win over Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
Donny Van Der Beek scored the only goal of the game on the quarter hour mark ahead of the second leg meeting between the two clubs at the Amsterdam Arena next week Wednesday.
