James Rodriguez

It is understood that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen on reinforcing his squad ahead of a Champions League campaign next season, and he is paying attention to his attacking midfield ranks.

The Italian manager is said to have instructed the Chelsea board to match the asking price Real Madrid had set to sign James Rodriguez this summer.

Rodriguez is frustrated with his lack of playing time at Real Madrid and desire to exit the club so as possible to rediscover his best form ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

It is understood that Chelsea are not the only club interested in the Colombian star, but that other top clubs including Manchester United and PSG have also submitted a bid to sign the player this summer.

However, in a new development, Spanish news outlet OK Diario says the player’s preferred destination would be Manchester United to join Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.

The former Monaco player could not convince Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane that he’s worthy of a bigger role in his squad. The playmaker is now set to leave the La Liga club, with the Champions League winners asking for €68m (£60m).

OK Diario also claims there’s an agreement in place between Jose Mourinho’s side and the player, but both Chelsea and Manchester United are still unwilling to meet his £60 Million valuations.
