Former European champions Chelsea have been told that they must pay a club-record transfer fee of €100m if they want to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
This is according to the publication from Portuguese media outlet Correio da Manha which claimed that the Blues will have to pay the €100m release clause in the player’s contract at Sporting Lisbon.
Chelsea are not the only club interested in the 24-year-old.
Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, as well as the Merseyside duo of Liverpool and Everton, have all been linked with the Portuguese national team player.
Bruno Fernandes is one of the highest goalscoring midfielders in the major European leagues after netting 10 goals in 20 matches in the Primeira Liga.
In addition, he has weighed in with six assists in those league games.
Chelsea want to bolster their midfield in the summer after they failed to sign a replacement for experienced Spanish international Cesc Fabregas when he left to join French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco during the January transfer window.
The Blues have been linked with several midfielders but they were unable to sign anyone.
Bruno Fernandes represents a quality option for Chelsea to boost their midfield options.
Cagliari star Nicolo Barella and newly signed PSG player Leandro Paredes were heavily linked with Chelsea last month.
