Carnell’s 2026: My Anxiety’s Penn State Preview

Penn State DL Alijah Carnell faces immense pressure in 2026, and our anxious journalist dives into all the terrifying possibilities for his season.

Previewing the 2026 season for Penn State DL Alijah Carnell

Oh, *Alijah Carnell*. Just saying his name sends shivers down my spine, and not the good kind, mind you. The kind that makes you double-check if you left the oven on, even though you don’t even *have* an oven. Penn State’s defensive line in 2026? It all hinges on him, doesn’t it? And that, my friends, is why I haven’t slept in weeks. The weight! The sheer, crushing weight of expectation on one young man’s shoulders, and by extension, on *my* fragile mental well-being as I stare at my wall, contemplating existential dread and the fate of the Nittany Lions.

Everyone’s talking about his potential, his explosiveness, how he could be a first-round pick. First-round pick! Do you know what that *means*? It means he’s now a target. Every offensive coordinator in the Big Ten is drawing up schemes *just* to neutralize him. They’re probably working with shadowy government agencies, I swear it. They’ve got heat-seeking missiles aimed directly at his knees, or maybe just a really big tight end. It’s all the same, isn’t it? Doom. Impending, unavoidable doom that will surely derail everything.

The Sophomore Slump… Or Junior Jitters?

He had a breakout freshman year, right? A phenomenal sophomore season. So, by the immutable laws of college football physics (which I’m pretty sure are controlled by angry gnomes), he’s due for a slump, isn’t he? It’s just science. He can’t keep improving at that rate. Nobody can. The universe demands balance, and that balance usually comes in the form of a missed tackle or a poorly timed offsides penalty that costs us the game against, I don’t know, Rutgers. And then what? The media will turn on him. The fans will turn on him. *I* might even turn on him, purely out of self-preservation because my fragile heart can’t take another disappointment.

And what if he *does* live up to the hype? Then what? He gets injured, obviously. That’s how it works. The football gods, they giveth, and then they taketh away, usually around Week 7, just to maximize the pain. Or maybe he *doesn’t* get injured, but he gets *distracted*. The NIL deals, the social media pressure, the aliens that everyone *swears* are scouting college athletes now. Is it too much to ask for one season of quiet, unassuming dominance, where nothing goes wrong and my blood pressure remains stable? Apparently, yes.

The Conspiracy of the Coaches

Then there’s the coaching staff. Will they utilize him correctly? Will they put him in positions to succeed, or will they try something “innovative” that completely neuters his abilities? Are they secretly trying to save him for the NFL draft, limiting his snaps just enough to avoid injury but also enough to make us all pull our hair out? Or are they overworking him, pushing him too hard, leading directly to the aforementioned Week 7 injury? It’s a delicate balance, one that I’m certain they will fumble, probably during a crucial red zone stand. I just know it.

Here’s what I’m dreading the most:

  • He has a spectacular early season, then vanishes in the biggest game.
  • A seemingly innocuous ankle tweak in practice, sidelining him for four weeks.
  • A sudden transfer portal entry to a rival school for “personal reasons” (which I’m sure means a shadowy PAC-2 collective offered him a yacht).
  • He becomes *too* good, and opposing teams simply refuse to run his way, making his stats look pedestrian, thus inviting undeserved criticism.
  • A new, unknown dietary supplement causes him to develop a mild allergy to turf, making home games impossible.

It’s enough to make you want to crawl into a bunker and wait for the season to be over, win or lose. The anxiety of potential failure, of missed opportunities, of the sheer randomness of the universe conspiring against a very talented young man and my beloved Penn State Nittany Lions, its all just too much to bare. I’m just trying to make it through, hoping against hope that Alijah Carnell can somehow navigate this minefield of expectation, and that I can recieve a good night’s sleep before November.
