Chelsea star player Nemanja Matic has emerged as a target for Manchester United this summer and has been heavily linked with reuniting with his former manager Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
It appears the Serbian midfielder is destined to play for Man United next season as there are reports that the blues Russian owner Roman Abramovich has given the club the green light to sell the player in a deal that could reach £50million.
It was speculated that Man United were close to completing Matic’s signing earlier this month, but the Romelu Lukaku saga complicated everything.
And after missing out on the Belgium international, it is understood that the premier league champions fast-tracked deals for both Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko to appease their Italian manager Antonio Conte, splashing huge cash in the process.
Now, they will look to recoup some of their spending from the sale of Diego Costa and Matic. While Costa is expected to make a return back to his former Spanish club Atletico Madrid, Nemanja is keen on reuniting with Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Already, Jose Mourinho’s side have seen bids of £35m and £40m rejected by Chelsea for the Serb, and they might simply be wary of selling him to a rival club.
Nevertheless, the Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea billionaire owner Mr Roman has stepped in to give the club permission to sell to a domestic rival.
