North London giants Arsenal are favourites to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar ahead of the upcoming January transfer market.
This is according to the publication from French media portal France Football.
It was further revealed that Liverpool tried to sign the young Frenchman two years ago but he turned down the transfer.
Houssem Aouar was encouraged to turn down the transfer to Liverpool by Lyon manager Bruno Genesio.
The 20-year-old went on to break into the Lyon first team under the guidance of Genesio in 2017.
He has become a key player for the French Ligue 1 giants since then.
The young French midfielder has scored five goals and provided four assists in 21 games for Lyon in all competitions.
Aouar has been in very good form for his team in both the French Ligue 1 and the Champions League campaigns this season.
Apart from Arsenal and Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in him.
He drew high praise from Pep Guardiola recently after his outing against his Manchester City side on Matchday 5 of this season’s Champions League.
Houssem Aouar produced an impressive outing as Lyon and the Premier League champions played out a 2-2 draw in France.
He had earlier posted the same performance in the stunning 2-1 away victory over Manchester City on Matchday 1.
