Manchester United Top Target: Yes, Chelsea Approached Me For My Signature

Belgium international Dries Mertens has revealed that Premier League champions Chelsea were interested in getting his signature this summer after rumours of talks being held with both the Stamford Bridge club and their premier league rival Manchester United.

Mertens enjoyed a fabulous campaign this just concluded season where he was able to score 34 times in 45 games in all competitions for his Serie A club Napoli.
The Belgian international was linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United, but he chose to sign a new contract with Napoli to commit his future to the Italian club.

And Mertens, in a recent interview, confirmed that Chelsea showed interest in him and made an approach for him and they held talks with his representatives last December in London.

The player, however, added that there was never an intention to dump Napoli and that even though the just-concluded season was a good one, he would try harder to make next season a much better one.

Chelsea star striker Diego Costa is expected to leave Stamford Bridge any time soon, and the west London club is still in search for another super striker this summer. The club have been linked with stars like Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
