Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has confirmed his move to Chinese Super League club, Tianjin TEDA.
The Nigeria international took to the social media to confirmed his exit from Chelsea after spending over a decade at the club.
Mikel was frozen from the Blues starting squad since the arrival of Antonio Conte in the summer, and the Italian boss favoured N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Nathaniel Chalobah in the midfield ahead of him.
The 29-year-old is set to earn a staggering £140,000 a week at the Chinese club. A initial confirmation has done through a picture shared on Chinese website Webo, where Mikel was pictured holding a Tianjin club jersey alongside a club official.
The Super Eagles skipper won two Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies and the Champions League in 2012 during his time at the Stamford Bridge.
Mikel has now shared an open letter to his fans on social media, further confirming his departure from the Stamford Bridge, to become the third Blues player to exit the club for the Chinese Super League following the departures of Brazilian duo of Ramires and Oscar.
Tianjin TEDA finished 11th in the Chinese Super League last season and will hope to build on the 29-year-old midfielder’s arrival as other clubs in China continue to lure foreign stars with big money moves despite complaints about the poor state of the League.
