Manchester United are reported to have messed up the chance of having the signature of Ajax duo Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt in the past.
This was revealed by United’s head of youth recruitment Derek Langley who claimed that the club was advised to land the duo but they refused to heed to the advice.
Now, both players have grown into world star and are being soughed for by big European sides with the duo believed to be worth about £100 million.
The United’s recruitment boss said before the players became world class and attracting interest all over Europe, they were both available for the Red Devils.
He added that the inability of the club to secure the signature of the players made him doubt the ability of some of the club officials who were unable to discover the talents in the players.
However, United are now sweating to secure the signature of the two stars with a higher price which would have been avoided according to the head of youth recruitment.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are struggling to have a breakthrough into the top four as they are just returning to winning ways under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
