Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has told the club to sign Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto as Nemanja Matic’s replacement, according to reports.
The Blues are in dire need of new faces following the departures of a number of players since last January transfer window, leaving Conte with worries of his light squad.
The Italian boss has repeatedly talked about the challenge of not having a large squad ahead of their title defence in the Premier League.
Reports in Spanish outlet Sport claims that Conte has now asked the club to sign Sergi Roberto to replace Matic who joined their league rivals, Manchester United.
However, it is understood that United boss Jose Mourinho has also set sights on signing the versatile Spaniard as he hopes to add more flexibility to his squad before the start of new season.
Roberto has a £35 million release clause and could be open to a move away from the Catalan giants due to his limited chances of getting into the starting eleven next season under new boss Valverde Ernesto.
