Done deal: Liverpool complete first January signing

Liverpool have completed their first deal of the year as they snap up a left-back Billy Koumetio from French side US Orleans Loiret.

The 16-year-old defender has been under trials atThe Reds had Koumetio on trial at the Melwood training ground since November last year and he impressed the club’s youth coaches.

The impressed hierarchies decided to sign him into their academy so as to keep close watch on him and to equally help him develop his game within the shortest period of time.

Koumetio was with Lyon before deciding to give it a go at Anfield so as to achieve his dream of featuring for the Reds when he grows up.

According to the Daily Star, the 16-year-old defender will be integrated into the U23 side but he is readily available to feature for the U18 side as long as he still falls in the age bracket.

Having seen Klopp’s commitment in promoting impressive and highly-talented academy products into his first-team squad, Koumetio will definitely up his game so as to be the next player to follow the likes of Joe Gomez and Alexander-Arnold into the main team.

The Reds are very much committed in seeing their youngsters progress to the first-team in no time so as to avoid spending much on reinforcing the team every transfer markets.

Ki-jana Hoever and Camacho who were academy products have been given their first-team debuts which they performed brilliantly.

Camacho, in particular, has been the saving grace Klopp is enjoying at the moment due to the injuries to his regular first-team defenders.

The manager turned to the youngster for solution when almost all the first-team defenders were injured, and he didn’t disappoint against Crystal Palace last week.
