Chelsea centre-back David Luiz has signed a new short-term contract with the Blues, that’s according to Goal.
The well-known media outlet confirmed that the Brazilian defender, who is enjoying a new lease of life under Maurizio Sarri, has committed his future to the West London outfits as he signed a one-year contract extension.
The player’s existing contract will end at the end of the season but the Blues have ignored their usual norms by offering him a new deal.
After an unproductive spell during Conte’s last season as Chelsea manager, the Brazilian was tipped by reporters to leave Stamford Bridge prior to the beginning of this season.
However, the Blues terminated Conte’s contract so as to prevent the experienced player and other senior players including Eden Hazard from leaving the Stamford Bridge during the previous transfer market.
Sarri rates the Brazilian so high that he gas featured in 21 Premier League matches from possible 22 games.
Luiz is known for his ability to score from dead balls but he has been unable to do more of that so far this season.
Extending his deal will be good news to Chelsea fans who are very happy with what they’ve seen from the player all through the season.
With the new deal, the 31-year-old defender will remain at Stamford Bridge till 2022.
