Arsenal have launched a £10million bid for Fenerbache defender Simon Kjaer, according to reports in Turkey.
The Gunners have been active since the end of the season that saw them finish out of top four for the first time in twenty years much to the dismay of Arsene Wenger who is said to be frustrated at the spate of the goals his side conceded during the campaign.
Arsenal suffered defensive frailties last season, conceding 44 goals in the Premier League which was the highest among their league rivals.
The defenders have often been criticised for their lack of composure and solidity with Laurent Koscienly being the only reliable defender for the Gunners and the side conceded cheap goals in his absence.
It is understood that Arsene Wenger has faced his assistant and ex-defender, Steve Bould on several occasions about the defensive challenges.
Reports in Turkish outlet, TurksVoetbal claim that Simon Kjaer has emerged as a shock target for the Gunners as they prepare to solve their defensive problems this summer.
Having signed Sead Kolasinac from Schalke earlier this summer, the report claims that Arsenal have launched a bid of £10million for Kjaer.
However, the North London club will have to beat their League rivals, Liverpool to the defender’s signature with reports that Jurgen Klopp is also interested in signing Kjaer who gave former Manchester striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic a tough time when they met in the Europa League last term.
