West Brom Albion is considering a double swoop for Manchester United duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, according to reports.
The defensive pair have been a bit-part for United last season, due to inconsistencies and fitness issues. United boss Jose Mourinho openly criticised the attitude of both players during the last campaign, sparking reports that the pair will leave the Old Trafford this summer.
The arrival of Victor Lindelof has further reduce their prospects in the starting eleven of United next season, with suggestions that Mourinho fancies the partnership of Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the centre-back positions next term.
Reports in The Mirror claim that West Brom boss Tony Pulis is an avid admirer of Phil Jones’ ability to play at central defence and defensive midfield while fancying Smalling as a player with solid defensive abilities.
It is understood that Pulis is keen on bringing new faces to his defensive line this summer following the departure of Jonas Olsson on a free transfer while former United defender Johnny Evans is said to be considering his future at the Hawthorns and could move to Leicester City
However, it is believed that Jose Mourinho wants Chris Smalling to remain at Old Trafford as he views as an experienced hand in the squad despite his criticisms last season.
