Manchester United are reportedly closely in on Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez, who presently plays for current European champions Real Madrid in the Spanish Primera Division, ahead of the January transfer window next month.
Rodriguez has found playing opportunities hard to come by under French manager Zinedine Zidane and is open to a move away from Santiago Bernebeu when the transfer window opens on the 1st of January, 2017.
The former AS Monaco and FC Porto star was the main man at the last FIFA World Cup in Brazil as he burst onto the scenes after scoring 6 goals to emerge topscorer thereby leading the Colombian team to their first ever quarter-final appearance in the tournament.
The tournament earned James Rodriguez a £63m move to 11-time European champions from French side AS Monaco in the summer of 2014. He had a more than average first season in the colours of the Los Merengues however he has not seen playing time like he would have hoped for ever since.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is currently looking for reinforcements following his team’s average start to the season (30 points from the first 17 league games), he has identified Rodriguez as a January transfer target. The 20-time English champions are presently occupying the 6th spot on the league table
