A report stated that Manchester United are close to reaching an agreement to sign French international Antoine Griezmann in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Old Trafford club are close to reaching an agreement with his club Atletico Madrid to sign the talented attacker.

Yahoo Sport stated that Manchester United believe themselves to be leading the race to sign the highly rated forward as Portuguese tactician Jose Mourinho ponders bolstering his squad in the summer period.

It was reported that initial talks to sign the 25-year-old player are at a more advanced stage than previously predicted.

It goes on to explain that the red devils have to go close to breaking the world record transfer fee of £89m which they paid to sign Frenchman Paul Pogba from Juventus last summer to bring Griezmann to Old Trafford this year.

Last summer, United were one of the Premier League’s biggest spending teams as they brought players like Paul Pogba and Mkhitaryan to Old Trafford.

But despite all that, Mourinho and his men have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League this season and they head into this weekend’s round of fixtures in sixth place and 14 points behind table leaders Chelsea.
