Chelsea FC manager Antonio Conte thinks defender Virgil van Dijk will become a perfect replacement for legend John Terry at Stamford Bridge, reports stated.
Since joining Southampton FC from Celtic last year, Virgil Van Dijk has played 53 matches for the club and the 25-year-old has earned rave reviews for his performances in the Premier League.
According to The Times, the outstanding performances of the 25-year old defender at the back seems to have gotten the attention of Chelsea boss Antonio Conte. It was suggested that Conte might try getting the Dutchman’s signature in the next transfer market next January.
However, before the blues decide showing interest in Van Dijk, there have been speculations that some elites English teams are already working to get his signature. So, Chelsea need to be prepared to beat off competition from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool who are also interested in Van Dijk.
Since Conte led Chelsea converted to their 3-4-3 formation, they have only conceded two league goals, which means the defence department is in a good state. However, potential defensive reinforcements are still being assessed.
About Virgil Van Dijk, ex-Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins said:
‘He would bring on the youngsters coming through as well because he is excellent on the communication side of stuff.‘He would be a perfect fit for Chelsea.’
Van Dijk has a £25million release clause in his current contract at Southampton.
