Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is bent on having his way in the signing of new players to the club and is reported to have approached the board to activate the buy-back clause in Memphis Depay’s Lyon deal when the Dutchman left the club in January 2017.
Depay had joined United from Lyon in 2015 and had a promising start, not forgetting the brilliant brace he scored in a Champions League clash with Club Bruges.
Along the way, things fell apart and Depay had to leave the Old Trafford for Lyon nearly two years ago.
Mourinho thinks the player is now in the form he wants and he has asked the club’s chairman, Ed Woodward to return the player from the Ligue 1.
The former Chelsea boss is aware of the buy-back option on the player and feels its time to do the needful.
Mourinho is believed to be insisting on the return of Depay to reduce the dominance power of midfielder, Paul Pogba.
The United boss is reported to be having relationship issues with the Frenchman and will not mind sanctioning a move for him to leave the club.
