Former Chelsea attacking midfielder Oscar has disclosed that he would prefer to return to Stamford Bridge if a chance presents itself. The Brazil international midfielder signed for Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG in a reported fee of about £60million back in January 2017, making the player one of the biggest transfers away from the West London club.
Brazilian Oscar moved to the Bridge back in the summer of 2012 from Brazilian side Internacional and left having played 203 matches for the club in all competitions, netting 38 goals in the process. During his four-and-a-half League seasons at the Premier League club, he won an English Premier League title, the UEFA Europa League and the English League Cup.
The Brazilian made a decent start under Italian tactician Antonio Conte, finding his way into the starting XI in the Blues opening five matches of the Premier League season but lost his starting shirt when the former Juventus manager switched to the new 3-4-3 formation, preferring a midfield pairing of Serbian Nemanja Matic and Frenchman N’Golo Kante over the tiny Brazilian. A lack of regular football time and a chance to earn more cash turned his mind, with the attacker finally opting to head to China.
When questioned if he would consider going back, Oscar answered Premier League Brasil, “Yes, I [Oscar] would go back! I [Oscar] am still young, I [Oscar] am [just] 26 years old. Who knows, in two, three seasons to return to the [English] Premier League… I [Oscar] will be very glad. And preferably for Champions Chelsea, who opened the doors for me [Oscar] to return.”
