Former Man United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has made it known that he was very close to making a move to Anfield to play for Liverpool, before making the dream move to Old Trafford.
The shot-stopper joined Manchester United in 2005 when Sir Alex Ferguson was still boss at the club, and the former manager even admitted he should have signed Edwin earlier in his career.
The Dutchman spent six years at Old Trafford and helped the club win three Premier League trophies as well as the Champions League silverware in 2008.
However, speaking recently about his life and his sweet career in England, the former Netherlands international revealed that things might not have been the way it was assuming he had agreed to move to Liverpool in 1999.
The 46-year-old told FourFourTwo that when he left Ajax, he travelled to Liverpool and met with the club’s chairman and that he was shown around Anfield to convince him to come play with them.
But according to him, when he was having some thoughts about their offer, he received another offer from Juventus and decided to move to Italy for ‘a bigger challenge’.
He joined Manchester United in 2005 and he went on to become a legend at the club – one of the best goalkeepers in footballing history.
He is currently the CEO of his former Dutch club Ajax.
