Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has sent a message to fans about Anthony Martial while hailing the Frenchman after scoring the winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Portuguese tactician believes the France international is ‘more comfortable’ than Marcus Rashford when it comes to dropping off opponents to receive the ball.
Anthony replaced Marcus in the second half of the game and was able to score for his side with just nine minutes left to go, earning all three points for Jose Mourinho’s side.
And after the game, the former Chelsea manager defended the France international after his form was criticised by some Man United fans, and he made it known that Martial was given special instructions to get past Spurs tough defence.
“[Martial was] more comfortable dropping in between the lines to have the ball and to try to drive the ball,” Jose said after the mmatch while comparing the Frenchman with Rashford.
Mourinho also added that even if Martial’s goal was tagged a ‘lucky shot’, the most important thing is that the shot got his side the full three points.
The Portuguese boss will now put his attention on the next premier league game against his former club at Stamford Bridge next weekend, and is still sitting on the second spot of the table ahead of the game.
