Manchester United are now in pole position to sign AS Monaco winger, Thomas Lemar after Arsene Wenger confirmed that Arsenal have pulled out of the race.
The 21-year-old was key figure for the French champions last season, scoring 14 goals and 14 assists as they also got to the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal were leading in the race to sign Lemar this summer with reports that Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the winger’s abilities and even travelled earlier in the transfer window to discuss the possibility of bringing the winger to the Emirates this summer.
However, Wenger has now revealed that the deal to sign Lemar is ‘dead’ after Monaco ‘closed the door’ of the deal. The Frenchman has also hinted that Kylian Mbappe and Manchester United target, Fabinho could be on the move before the end of the window.
Red Devils boss, Jose Mourinho has linked with a move for Thomas Lemar as the deal to sign Inter Milan winger is proving too difficult to materialise for the English giants.
Following Wenger’s revelation, United could pounce on Lemar’s signature ahead of their rivals, with reports that Monaco will listen to offers in the region of 55 million pounds for the winger.
Though, it remains unclear whether Mourinho will be willing to pay such a huge fee for Lemar, having pulled out a deal for Perisic due to Inter’s astronomical asking price.
