Arsenal stars Oliver Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy have both been ruled out of the team’s London Derby clash with West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday evening as confirmed by long-serving club manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger made this known during his pre-match press conference adding that his French striker will however be fit for their UEFA Champions League (UCL) last group game against Swiss champions FC Basel as they attempt to wrestle top spot from French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) while also revealing that French defender Mathieu Debuchy will be out of action for the next six months.
On Giroud, who has scored three league goals, Wenger stated that: “I thought that Giroud might be available for Saturday, but he might not be available for tomorrow. Certainly for Tuesday [in Basel], he will be available.”
Speaking about Debuchy, who made his first appearance during Arsenal’s recent 3-1 win over visitors Bournemouth before succumbing early to injury, Wenger confirmed that he has a hamstring injury and would be ruled out for the next six weeks. He said: “It’s a severe hamstring injury. Six weeks, I think. It’s frustrating for me, but even more for him because he fights very hard. He is a guy who has an exceptional attitude and is very serious.”
