Why Liverpool Won’t Sign Memphis Depay This Summer

Champions League finalists Liverpool are reportedly not interested in a summer move for Lyon forward Memphis Depay.

This is in contrary to recent reports which claimed that the Reds were interested in a deal to bring the Dutch international back to the Premier League after his failed spell with arch rivals Manchester United.

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool won’t make a move for Memphis Depay during this summer’s transfer window.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is expected to leave the club at the end of his contract this summer and Memphis Depay was thought to be the direct replacement for him.

Memphis Depay spent 18 months as a Manchester United player between 2015 and January 2017 before he signed for Lyon.

He joined the Red Devils from Dutch Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015 but he didn’t live up to expectations at the Theatre of Dreams.

Since joining Lyon during the 2017 winter transfer window, Dutch star Depay has scored 39 goals and also provided 41 assists during his two-and-a-half year spell at the club until now.

He scored 10 goals and assisted as many in 36 games in the top flight of French football this season as Lyon sealed a Champions League spot for next season.
