Manchester United have been trying hard to get Virgil Van Dijk to Old Trafford, and hope is now renewed after learning the Southampton defender has a €25 million release clause at his club.
The Dutchman is in great form in his centre-back role this season, and his outstanding performances is getting the attention of top clubs across the premier league.
United are interested in signing the 25-year defender. After the Mirror reported that Van Dijk has a €25 million on release clause, it should be much easier for the red devils to sign him over.
Nevertheless, since clubs like Manchester City and Everton are also interested in signing the Dutchman and can also afford the release clause, it is going to be a battle for Van Dijk.
Jose Mourinho is on the lookout to reinforce his defence, and Van Dijk is not the only option being considered. It was also reported that Manchester United have opened talks with Benfica over the signing of their star centre-back Victor Lindelof. In fact, Daily Mirror stated that the Sweden international is the top defensive priority for Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho in the January transfer window. Lindelof’s team, Benfica, are said to value him at a whopping £50 million.
